John Phillips Tuition Series: Playing with the Driver
Setup / Takeaway / Backswing / Downswing / Follow Through / Drills

Practice Drill
Here are some practice drills that you can practice at home or on the driving range.

Put a tee in the ground and place another tee about 2 inches in front of that at a 45° angle.

Make a few swings trying not to touch the forward tee. This will encourage an upward swing path, which is needed to hit those long straight tee shots.

Another method is to practice in front of a patio or large window, so that you can see if you get your address position correct; ie. ball and hands position as well as your weight equally balanced between your feet.

Remember that the tempo should remain the same with the driver as with the 4 iron or a pitching wedge, although the length of the driver, being the longest club, makes it harder to achieve.
