John Phillips Tuition Series: Green Side Bunker Shots
Swing / Plugged Shots / Practice Drill

Plugged Bunker Shots
There are times when you might get a plugged ball in a green side bunker.

You should try to play the ball more in the centre of your stance. This makes your swing slightly steeper. Closing the club face at address, try hitting the sand about 1 inch behind the ball, remembering that the club will not go as far through the sand as a normal shot.
The ball will also travel lower and run more when it hits the green. Remember to allow for this when judging where to land the ball on the green.
