TIPS FROM
KEN VENTURI:
PUTTING PRACTICE -
THE PUTTING TRACK

Back to Index

You will see all the best putters work with a putting track.  Simply put two boards or clubs down five to six feet from a hole lined up to hit a ball into the hole.  Place the ball toward the back of the track.  This will help you in a variety of ways.  It will ensure your alignment and train your eye to align properly to the track line.  The track can also tell us what path you have hit the putt on.  If the putter ends up finishing towards the inside rail of the track, you have cut across the putt.  If the putter ends up outside the farther track, you have pushed the putt.  Ideally the putter head should remain inside the track on this length putt.  Check one more item.  Look and see how high the putter head ends up.  If the putter head ends up very high, you have probably topped the putt.  To insure a proper stroke,
keep the putter close to the ground as possible.  Remember, the best putters use a pendulum stroke and a track will help you train the best way.
