TIPS FROM
KEN VENTURI:
TUG OF WAR DRILL

Back to Index

To emphasize proper lower body movement in the downswing it helps to set up a “tug of war” drill.  Address the ball. Take the club back and then swing down to waist high into a partner's hand.  Now have the player try to pull the club out of the partner's grasp as if you were in a tug of war.

Instinctively the player will pull leading with the legs and hips moving laterally.  This will simulate the proper lateral shift in the downswing.
