The Fan Through

Use this type of swing fan to tone your golfing muscles – but do so in moderation

When I first tried the Through! swing fan, I thought this was a great tool to tune the golf muscles during the week or to make up for lost time on the range after a winter layoff.

Swing this 10 or 15 times and then pick up a club. You will not believe it. The club feels like a wand and will positively fly through the hitting area.

Swing it for 20 minutes, as I once did, and you may find yourself playing your worst game of golf ever. [And I’d like to take this opportunity to apologise to my team for last year’s Christmas pro-am.]

That’s the danger: you must not over-do this type of exercise as you can lose feel for the clubhead. The fan works on the principle of creating resistance, which in moderation will certainly develop strength and golfing muscles, but over-do it and you run the risk of losing your feel, particularly in the downswing and through impact.

So, be careful.
