Sports
followers and particularly those associated with golf, will
know of the skill and sportsmanship of Tommie Campbell. Always
active as a player, administrator and commentator at the highest
level, he has played with distinction all over the world.
Norris McWhirter, publisher of Guinness Book of Records, described
Tommie as "pound for pound one of the greatest athletes
of modern time" when he entered that book with a world
long drive record of 392 yards in 1964.
Staying
the Course has caused much excitement since its publication
and has drawn the following comment from MP, Tony Benn "..
a very readable account of the life of a great sportsman and
an observant and compassionate person."
Having
hit a drive of three hundred and ninety-two yards in 1964,
Tommie Campbell has secured himself a place not just in the
Guiness Book of Records, but also in the hearts of many golf
enthusiasts. But this world record does not tell the story
of Tommie Campbell, the man, only the hero. There is a lot
more to his life than golf, as he proves in this autobiography.
Staying
the Course is an honest, reflective and at times very
humerous account of the life of an extraordinary man, both
on and off the golf course.
