HISTORY
OF EMPLOYMENT
Whilst still
at school I took a weekend job helping out in the pro shop at Manifold
G.C. and on leaving school took a full - time job here as an assistant.
1976 - 1979
TRAINEE PROFESSIONAL
The first two
years of my apprenticeship were spent at Manifold G.C. followed
by a final year at Braintree G.C. I took my playing test for PGA
membership at PGA Headquarters The Belfry in January 1979 and my
final exams in March 1979, passing both at the first attempt .
1979 - 1983
FULLY QUALIFIED ASSISTANT PROFESSIONAL , COLCHESTER G.G
I was in charge
of running the pro shop, gave a large number of lessons and also
organised all the club competitions.
1983 - 1987
HEAD PROFESSIONAL, MANIFOLD GC, ESSEX .
During this
period I built up the pro shop as well as the normal club responsibilities
of running competitions and looking after green fee receipts and
tee - times. My teaching responsibilities were extensive ( up to
45 hours per week ) and during my time at the club several players
who were to go on to better things worked under my tutelage, including
Paul Curry ( winner of the Jersey open 1994 ) and Wendy Dicks and
Sarah Bennett, both of whom now play on the American Express Ladies
Tour . These three were then talented amateurs, but I also attracted
a great number of beginners, including ladies and juniors. In 1985
the club was taken over by a new company and renamed Quietwaters
Golf & Club. It was the first U.K base for a David Leadbetter Golf
Academy.
1987 - 1989
HEAD PROFESSIONAL, TIPTREE G.R . ESSEX .
My time was
primarily spent teaching in this position, with about 50 hours per
week, including pupils from a wide area of Essex. Many of whom followed
me there from Quietwaters.
1989 - 1998
DIRECTOR OF GOLF, LIBBATON G.C. DEVON.
Libbaton was
a new club when I was appointed and my task was to build up the
golf side of the business. There was no direct golf industry experience
within the club and from the start I established a tee - time booking
system, set up all club competitions and advised the greenkeeper
on course maintenance. From the start seven years ago Libbaton now
has a thriving membership of over 500 and has ladies' and men's
teams competing successfully throughout Devon. I have established
a close relationship with the local Education Authority and run
evening classes throughout the year for aspiring golfers. These
include beginner's classes and improver's classes which I conduct
on the golf course. I have also implemented a junior's section and
now have 20 junior pupils per week. I have presented a golf slot
on local radio twice per week, answering listeners' questions on
golf. For the past three years I have also been one of the Titleist
Teaching Panel Professionals at the Benson & Hedges Open at St.
Mellion, Cornwall ( a European Tour Event ) . This entails teaching
from 10 am until 6 pm. In 1993 I established the North Devon School
Of Golf, attracting pupils on a residential basis from every part
of the U.K and from Portugal, Ireland, Denmark and the United States.
I have achieved publicity for this venture in Golf Monthly, Golf
World, Today's Golfer, Fore and Woman & Golf magazines and on ITV
television and regularly teach over 200 pupils per year on this
program, bringing substantial revenue to the club and local hotels
. ( A brochure is enclosed with this letter ) . I have established
the only indoor computerised teaching centre in the South West of
England and have built an indoor putting green, and within the last
few weeks become a Golf Monthly teaching panelist writing in their
magazine.
AMBITIONS
FOR THE FUTURE
My ambitions
are to further develop my management and teaching skills and provide
a first class service to both members and visitors alike.
