You've
heard of the perimeter-weighted golf club - now here's the
matching ball. Well almost. With their latest model of best-selling
2-piece ball, Top-Flite has incorporated 'metal matrix technolgy'
that would put most high-tech golfs clubs (let alone balls)
to shame.
Their
first task was to incoporate some relatively heavy tungsten
into the core of the ball, an inspired strategy to allow a
thicker but less dense cover that will instantly surprise
2-piece sceptics who typically complain of the lack of feel
and softness of 'distance' designs.
Meanwhile,
the addition of titanium to the surlyn cover is designed to
make it less responsive to spin in the early stages of flight,
thereby yielding more distance.
Overall,
an intricate design from the pioneers of the 2-piece revolution
- now almost 30 years ago.
