With Nick Faldo on board and the Tight Lies wonder club notching up its 1 millionth sale (and counting), it was only a matter of time before canny US entrepreneur, Barney Adams, took on the big boys in the driver market. But his debut design will raise some eyebrows. Not so much for the Faldo logo, but for the intriguing 'roll-and-bulge' face which everyone thought had died along with persimmon.

In traditional 'wood' woods, a countoured face helped to correct sidepsin in by inducing an opposing 'gear' effect. But the principle lives on in this Spin Control series - though in varying amounts

depending on whether you require hook control (go for the 808HC version); fade control (try the 818FC); or more extreme slice control (824FC+).

Meanwhile the 814-N model is for golfers who require equal workability on both shapes of shot (ie they can hit it straight!).
