You've probably heard of multi-layer balls (a modern alternative to 2- and 3-piece constructions), well now there's a multi-layer iron. And not to be confused with the ball of the same name, the Revolution irons are a recessed cavity-back design made from a soft nickel compound but coated with a hard chrome outer layer.

"It's a unique technology which gives you the feel of two clubs in one - the playability of a cavity but with the feel of a blade," says Maxfli UK chief, Andrew Keast.

With their non-offset design and a slim leading edge, the clubs will probably favour low-handicap players and pros. Indeed, Fred Couples even tested the protoype at the USPGA, last year, while British pro Brian Davis credited his course record at the Scandinavian Masters last year to this new design.
