ADAMS GOLF: FALDO SERIES WEDGES

Nick Faldo showed that there is indeed more to a signature series than just scribbling on the dotted line, with the six-time major winner insisting on a hands-on approach to craftsmanship that we thought had disappeared with Old Tom Morris. Working with raw steel blank heads, Faldo spent the winter hitting golf balls off sheets of sandpaper with the resulting scratchmarks revealing the ideal edges, bounce angles and sole configuration for his dream wedge.

A laborious process maybe - particularly as, at each stage, the prototype was sent back to the Adams plant in Texas to incorporate his very nuance. The result is a fairly small, traditional-looking head featuring a sole with a versatile four-way grind, making it ideal for pitches, finesse 'flops' and even explosions from the sand - courtesy of Nick's legendary low bounce preference. Not bad for one club (which will be available in 56- and 60-degree versions).
