GREAT BIG BERTHA DRIVERS ARE THE CHOICE OF CHAMPIONS AT ANDERSEN WORLD MATCH PLAY
AND LADIES MASTER
S

CARLSBAD, Calif, March 3, 1999 - In the two biggest professional tournaments this past weekend, Great Big Bertha Titanium Drivers from Callaway Golf were the choice of champions. The winner of the inaugural Andersen Consulting World Match Play Championship used his Great Big Bertha Driver to win $1 million at La Costa Resort and Spa. And the winner of the Australian Ladies Masters used her Great Big Bertha Driver as she shattered the LPGA Tour scoring record with a 26-under-par total.

Although these two winning golfers are under contract to competing golf club manufacturers, each chose to used metal woods made by Callaway Golf.

The winner of the World Match Play Championship cited his consistent driving as a key factor in the six matches he won - including his upset victory over the world's No 1-ranked player, Tiger Woods. The Match Play champion also used a Callaway S2H2 3-wood. His individual choices were reflected by the field. Last week on the PGA Tour, Callaway Golf fairway woods were the number one choice of pros at the World Match Play Championship and at the Tucson Classic - as they have been every week of the 1999 season. For the year to date on the five major professional tours, Callaway Golf has accounted for 51.6% of the fairway woods in play.

At the Australian Ladies Masters, the champion, who won by 10 strokes, averaged 252.8 yards per drive en route to 28 birdies in 72 holes. Nearly two-thirds of the field (64.1%) chose a Callaway fairway wood, including the winner who used a Big Bertha War Bird 3-wood and a Big Bertha Steelhead 5-wood. In fact, the three top finishers in the tournament at Royal Pines Resort in Queensland, Australia, all used Big Bertha Steelhead fairway woods.

A Callaway Golf fairway wood also contributed to victory on the Senior PGA Tour, as the winner of the ACE Group Classic used a Great Big Bertha Hawk Eye 4-wood in his victory. The third-place finisher also put Callaway woods in play, using a Great Big Bertha Driver and 4-wood. According to the Darrell Survey, Callaway topped the lists of most-played drivers and fairway woods at the ACE Group Classic - just as it has at each Senior PGA Tour event this year.
