Top-Flite balls for Big
Bertha and Ti Bubble drivers
Spalding has announced
plans to launch a new Top-Flite Ball/Club System T golf ball made
specifically for the Callaway Big Bertha and the Taylor Made Ti
Bubble 2 drivers.
"We feel club-specific
balls will help eliminate confusion and be the trend of the future
in our industry," said Scott Creelman. executive vice president
for Spalding Sports Worldwide.
"More than 4 million
golfers currently use either a Callaway or Taylor Made driver,"
Creelman said. "We felt, as the industry leader in golf ball
technology, it is our responsibility to meet the specific needs
of golfers who have invested in these clubs."
The balls have a multilayer
design created to increase the balls' moment of inertia to enhance
the performance of the oversized drivers by transferring weight
from the core to the perimeter of the golf ball, according to Mike
Sullivan, vice president of research and engineering for Spalding.
According to Sullivan,
the result is maximum distance with uncompromised feel and control
on iron shots around the green.
On the boxes is a disclaimer
stating that neither Callaway nor Taylor Made participated "in
the design, production or sale of these balls."
The move by Spalding
is seen as a pre-emptive move against Callaway who is the middle
of a $120 million research and development project to come out with
ball of its own late next year.
The new Top-Flite Ball/Club
System T will be available from 15th March at $44 a dozen.
