GOLF TREASURES:
YOUR QUESTIONS ANSWERED

I have a set of Lefthanded Wilson golf clubs: Irons 2-9 Sam Sneed Signature Model Dynamic Swing Reg No. 5002 (they have the hard plastic where the shave meets the iron head) Woods D-B-S Sam Sneed Signature Model Reg No. 4300 (they have the hard plastic cover where the shaft meets the wood head covering up the wound sting) Putter Sam Sneed Signature Model Dynamic Swing All the clubs have Steel True Temper Dynamic Shafts with leather grips Gruv-Grip Pat No. 2446622 I was told this was a matched set of clubs and the woods were a driver, brassy, and spoon. Can you tell me about how old they are and if they have any value? I was told they were from the early 40's or earlier. I also have the bag that was used with these clubs but I cant find any info of the maker on it, but was told it was possibly a wilson bag made the same time frame as the clubs. Thanks

Any memorabilia associated with golfing legend Slammin Sam Snead is destined to go up in value in the future. Whether this will apply to sets of golf clubs with his name on we will have to see. Probably made by Wilson in the late-1940's and early 1950's, they currently have little value. It seems collectors want either earlier hickory shafted clubs or later classic clubs from the 1960's like MacGregors for example. In the end, they are worth what someone is willing to pay you for them. As for a rough estimate of value, I would guess between £50-£100/ $80-$150 would not be too far away. (Of course it will be worth even more when Snead goes to join Hogan and Sarazen at the great nineteenth in the sky.)
