TITLEIST ADVANCES GOLF BALL LEADERSHIP POSITION WITH INTRODUCTION OF NEW HIGH PERFORMANCE MULTI-COMPONENT PRO V1

Titleist, manufacturer of the #1 ball in golf, advances its leadership position on the worldwide professional tours and in the marketplace with the introduction of the Pro V1 golf ball.

An exciting addition to Titleist’s high performance golf ball line, the large core, multi-component Pro V1 complements the Professional and Tour Prestige advanced liquid-filled centre wound golf balls and further accelerates Titleist’s position as the industry leader in innovative technology, best in class process quality and manufacturing capabilities.

The Pro V1 represents the coalescence of three of Titleist’s industry leading technologies: large solid core, multi-component construction, and high performance Urethane Elastomer cover technology, and delivers yet another breakthrough choice for golfers seeking longer distance and Drop-and-Stop performance into greens.

"One of the key cornerstones of the Titleist brand is to design and manufacture the very best golf balls for the very best players and the most skilled golfers in the world, professional and amateurs alike,"

comments Bill Morgan, Senior Vice President, Golf Ball Research and Development, Acushnet Company.

"In our commitment to this longstanding vision and mission, we continually strive to stretch the envelope in both process technology and product design. Extensive design, product testing, process development, intellectual property protection efforts and tour player validation have culminated in the new Pro V1."

Demand for the Pro V1 continues to escalate since its debut at the US PGA TOUR's Invensys Classic in October when 47 golfers played the new golf ball in competition the first week it was available. The number of Pro V1 players exceeded the combined total of all competitors’ solid construction golf balls, marking one of the largest pluralistic shifts of equipment at one event in golf history.

Billy Andrade relied upon the new model to win the event, and became the first of 10 players in seven weeks on six different tours to win a 2000 championship playing the Pro V1 at official world ranking events. Other champions include Phil Mickelson (TOUR Championship), Steve Lowery (Southern Farm Bureau Classic), Mike Weir (WGC-American Express Championship), Dottie Pepper (LPGA Arch Wireless Championship), Hale Irwin (EMC Kaanapali Classic), Joe Inman (SBC Senior Classic), Scott Petersen (Inland Empire Open), Keiichiro Fukabori (Ube Kosan Open) and Toru Suzuki (Casio World Open). In addition, Davis Love III earned $1 million and Ernie Els earned $2 million capturing the post-season Williams World Challenge and Nedbank Challenge, respectively, playing the Pro V1 golf ball.

From its large solid core, to the ionomer casing, and thin Urethane Elastomer cover, the construction of the new multi-component golf ball brings together elements representing years of Titleist’s design and process technology, some of which have been employed in Titleist products, but never combined in one design until now. Listed below are the Large Core Multi-Component construction specifications of the Pro V1 golf ball:

At every level of competitive golf, the overwhelming majority of players rely on the advanced technology and superior performance of Titleist golf balls for their success. The Pro V1 optimizes performance for higher swing speed players and particularly those golfers seeking to flatten their driver trajectories for greater distance.

Specific features and benefits of the large core multi-component and Urethane Elastomer cover Pro V1 include:

"The complementary addition of the new high performance Pro V1 golf ball has been designed to respond to the changing nature of the game," comments George Sine, Vice President, Golf Ball Marketing and Strategic Planning.

"In concert with our unmatched variety of construction platforms, uncontested performance variables and comprehensive patent portfolio, we will continue, as we have throughout our 69-year history of manufacturing excellence, to provide the best golf ball products for the changing nature in which the game is being played."

"Many of today's highly skilled golfers are placing a greater premium on distance, " continued Sine. "Thus, they are seeking a higher launching and lower spinning golf ball that delivers longer distance, while concurrently providing the playability they demand. The Pro V1 exceeds those expectations."

The new Titleist Pro VI golf ball will be available from early April and will be sold in traditional dozen and three-ball sleeves and carry a suggested retail price of £10.95 for a three-ball sleeve, identical to that of the Professional and Tour Prestige. The Pro VI is also included on the new complimentary Titleist Interactive Golf Ball Fitting CD-ROM Version 4.0, which can be obtained through www.titleist.co.uk or by e-mail at cdrom_offer@tfjww.com.

WHAT TOUR PLAYERS ARE SAYING ABOUT THE NEW TITLEIST PRO V1 GOLF BALL …

"It is so superior to anything else out there that I guarantee you the person who wins this tournament will be playing it." - Peter Jacobsen, prior to the start of the 2000 Invensys Classic at Las Vegas (the first week the Pro V1 was played in competition).

"The first week the ball is out, I win with it. Automatic instant confidence, and instant success." - Billy Andrade, winner of the 2000 Invensys Classic at Las Vegas

"It’s made a big difference in my game. Around the greens, it’s phenomenal. I’m able to spin the ball a lot more than I’ve ever been able to before." - Steve Stricker, winner of the 2001 WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship with the Pro V1

"I’m playing a game right now that is different from any game I have ever played. I honestly believe that if you are not playing this golf ball then you are at a distinct disadvantage to the entire field." - Phil Mickelson, winner of the 2000 TOUR Championship playing the Pro V1

"You can see the difference in the distance, the trajectory and the feel around the greens. It’s really a big move forwards." - Mike Weir, winner of the 2000 WGC-American Express Championship playing the Pro V1

"I have gained 20 yards with it minimum. And there’s more control .. I used it last weekend and I was like a dog with two tails" -Sam Torrance, European Ryder Cup Captain

"It sure makes it exciting to play golf again." - Davis Love III, winner of the 2000 Williams World Challenge playing the Pro V1

"The Pro V1 is great. The ball goes farther and I spin the ball better." - Ernie Els, winner of the 2000 Nedbank Challenge playing the Pro V1

"It’s better in the wind than any golf ball I have ever played." - Dottie Pepper, winner of the 2000 Arch Wireless LPGA Tour Championship

"With the Pro V1 I’m another 15 yards or so down the fairway and I hit the ball a little bit further with my irons. So in essence the Pro V1 makes a hole, if it was playing 430 yards, more like playing 400 yards." - Justin Leonard

"It flies higher. It flies farther. It stops on the green. It does everything you want a golf ball to do." - Vijay Singh

"With the Pro V1, I’m definitely longer off the tee, but I’m not giving anything up in terms of control. It feels soft, and there’s plenty of spin around the green." - Lee Westwood

"It’s so long – I’m hitting almost 2 clubs less into some greens. It’s unbelievable how it holds its line in the wind. The trajectory is higher on the long irons and the ball settles right down on the greens." - Darren Clarke
