Tour Support For Softspikes
The
European Seniors Tour will soon be a steel free zone judging
from some recent research in that area.
The research
shows that an amazing 95% of European Seniors Tour members
are now using cleats as opposed to steel spikes in their golf
shoes and the vast majority of those are Black Widow
cleats by Softspikes®.
More and
more Seniors Tour members are starting to rely on Black Widow
cleats by Softspikes, not just for the traction they offer,
but also for the extra comfort they provide and the result
is that spike marks are becoming a thing of the past at European
Seniors Tour venues.
"In the
last season or so it has been very noticeable that the greens
we play on have cut up much less than they used to and that's
got to be down to the fact that most of us now use cleats
rather than spikes," said a winner on this year's Tour. "I
switched about 18 months ago and I don't think I will ever
change back because my cleats give me greater comfort as well
as all the traction I need."
Usage
figures on US Senior Tour are almost as high as on its counterpart
in Europe.
Last month Tom Watson wore Black Widow cleats by Softspikes
when he won the Senior PGA Championship at Ridgewood GC and
he was by no means alone.
Altogether
a total of 114 out of the 144 competitors used Softspikes
cleats at the season's second senior major and that figure
rose to 126 out of 156 at the subsequent US Seniors Open where
a remarkable 91% of the field used cleats rather than steel
spikes.
Bruce
Fleishers victory in the US Seniors Open meant that all three
of this year's Senior majors have been won by golfers wearing
Black Widow cleats. Doug Tewell became the first when he won
the Countryside Tradition in April followed by Tom Watson’s
victory in the Senior PGA Championship.
