Performance
Coaching International
More than just a sports coach
Executive Summary
The client comes first.
This is one of the core values of every coach within the senior coaching team
at Performance Coaching International (PCI). PCI uses a unique, and extremely
effective coaching framework developed from extensive research in the UK, USA
and Australia that goes well beyond the traditional Sports Psychology coaching
model in both scope and results.
Clearly
the client wants results, and wants them fast; thus the PCI Breakthrough model;
is required to enable even the world’s best sports people to break through their
self imposed limitations leading to dramatic changes in concentration, confidence,
self belief and resilience levels, leading to transformed performance. With any
senior sports person, often the resource that is most scarce is time and utilising
these cutting edge coaching techniques ensures maximum value for the time invested
by the client in coaching.
A Sports
person who understands his own values and how they really do control his motivation,
and therefore his behaviour, will be better placed to deal with the conflicts
that arise during training, matches or competition when working as an individual
or with others as part of a team.
The Theoretical
Framework underpinning our approach to coaching
Performance Coaching International
(PCI) is an organisation dedicated to coaching. It is all we do, and we do it
well. All associate coaches within PCI have significant sports experience themselves
so that they can readily understand the broader client needs.
Coaching
activities are focused on working with the client’s values and beliefs in such
a way as to breakthrough limitations the client places upon himself which stop
him performing to his true potential. This has proved to be far more successful
than just a skills based and physical approach, it is now widely accepted that
the difference between winning or not is often in the mind. In order for the client
to get better results they need to think and behave differently. Our experience
is that usually the client knows what is needed in terms of behaviour or thinking
change, and yet does not make the change. This is why it is vital to work with
the client at the values and beliefs levels, as it is only at these higher levels
that it is possible to fully unlock the potential for performance and behaviour
change. Even if a client has the skills and capabilities, he will not use them
if his belief is such that he can’t. Even if he believes he can, he won’t if he
is not motivated by his values to do so. By working with beliefs and values, we
are working directly with the client’s limiting beliefs about himself and the
team, and with his self-esteem and motivation, both vital ingredients to success
and excellence.
Excellence
is derived from a combination of Competence, Confidence and Commitment. Our coaching
paradigm is to work with these primary elements of Excellence to get them in balance
and then enhance them in a way that aligns with the client vision.
In all our
dealings with individuals, we also work to our own values, which include integrity
and respect for the individual. This means total confidentiality for the client
and that his individual outcomes for the coaching are paramount.
Our results
have been impressive to say the least with clients ranging from World, Olympic
and European champions, world record holders to International Rugby players, to
sportsmen from Football, tennis, Grand Prix drivers, athletics, golf, rowers and
tri athletes to a golfer who we recently worked with who played on a Sunday for
fun, after one coaching session he reduced his handicap from 13.6 to 10.4
If someone
wants to improve their performance we will work with them. Head Coach Kevin McAlpin
has won numerous awards; his coaching and training have won no less than three
national training awards from the DFEE.
