Bonhams
Have Lots for Sale in Chester
The
first golfing memorabilia sale of the New Year will take
place at the sale rooms of Bonhams (formerly Phillips) in
Chester on Saturday 26th January commencing at 11.00 am.
More
than 500 lots are on offer including clubs, balls, books,
magazines and programmes, silver and jewellery, pictures
and prints, ceramics and glassware, clubmaking tools and
equipment.
Perhaps
the most recent item is an original oil on canvas portrait
of Tiger Woods by the Scottish painter Craig Campbell. Signed
by both Woods and the artist the painting is estimated at
£8,000 - £12,000. Craig Campbell, who was born in Prestwick
in 1960, studied at Glasgow College of Art and is regarded
by many to be the outstanding British golf artist of his
generation.
A number
of original architects maps from the firm of H Colt & Associates
are included. These concern projects to change the layouts
of some of the courses at St Andrews – projects which never
took place because of the outbreak of the Second World War.
Golf
Club histories and year books have proved a good investment.
The 1901 Year Book of Nairn Golf Club is estimated to make
£200 - £300, a first edition of The Book of Dalbeattie Golf
Club £700 - £900 and a copy of the Rules of The West Lancashire
Golf Club (instituted 1873) £250 - £350.
Viewing
takes place on 24th and 25th January and on the morning
of the sale. Bonhams http://www.bonhams.com
