UK invention set to revolutionise golf worldwide
The
game of golf is about to be opened up to a whole new audience
later this year when the world’s first ‘TopGolf™ Game Centre’
is launched in the UK. According to its owners, World Golf
Systems, this development will also see creation for a brand
new leisure category.
The
TopGolf™ Game Centre, to be created in Watford, Hertfordshire,
has at is heart ‘TopGolf™, an new golf based game, played
with premium Maxfli golf balls containing a small microchip.
Developed and tested by World Golf Systems over the past
three years, the I.D. BALLS™ can be allocated to individual
players and through the groundbreaking application of tracking
technology, can be identified when they land on one of the
eleven I.D BALL TARGET GREENS™. These are strategically
arranged on a ten acre Sportexe artificial turf outfield.
TopGolf™
is not a virtual golf game, it is played with real golf
clubs, balls and tees. It has been created to offer a whole
new way of practicing and developing golf skills for experienced
golfers, enthusiast amateurs – or young Tiger Woods in the
making – as well as to provide a new way of spending fun
leisure time for groups of family, friends and colleagues.
Visitors to the TopGolf™ Game Centre can choose to practice
and monitor their distance and accuracy of play or play
an exciting game for up to five players, with scores shown
on a screen in individual driving bays.
Traditional
golf ranges have often been accused of using ageing, poor
equipment but World Golf Systems has a number of partners
onboard to ensure that its visitors are only using the best.
The I.D. BALLS™ look the same, fly the same and play the
same as any other premium ball; free clubs are supplied
and the sophisticated computer technology at the centre
has been developed in association with Compaq.
The
Very First TopGolf™ Game Centre in the World
The
complex has been specifically designed to appeal as much
to the family looking for a fun afternoon out, as it will
to the keen golfer, and to generally make the game of golf
accessible to as many people as possible.
The
Centre’s ten-acre all weather outfield is made up of target
greens, hazards and fairways. Each target green is divided
in to zones from the edge of the green to the hotel itself,
with each zone being worth a different score. Wherever the
ball lands in the target green, it triggers a sensor that
instantly transmits the length of the shot and the distance
from the pin. These details are then projected on to a digital
screen in the player’s ball.
How
to play TopGolf™

Each bay is designed so that you can play on your
own or with up to five players

A game consists of 20 I.D. BALLS™, dispensed from
the TopGolf™ ball dispenser

The Maxfli ball is placed onto the I.D. BALL SENSORMAT™
to begin the game. As soon as the ball is placed on the
mat, the player’s name will appear on the screen in their
bay

There
are 11 BALL TARGET GREENS™ to aim at, ranging from chipping
targets to driving targets over 250 yards away. The player
aims at their selected target and strikes the ball from
the mat or teeThe
ball lands on the target and passes through the I.D. BALL
SENSOR™

The
screen displays the length of the shot, the distance form
the pin and the score

At
the end of the game, the latest score plus statistics
of previous games, and the player’s TopGolf™ handicap
are displayed

Players
can have as many games in a session as they choose

TopGolf™
leagues and challenges mean you can compete against other
members. If your score is in the top 10 of your category,
your name and ranking will be displayed on the master
scoreboard
How
to Score at TopGolf™
The
unique thing about TopGolf™ is that whether you play by
yourself or with friends, you can score as you play. Points
are awarded depending on the distance of the shot and where
the ball lands on the target.
The
11 I.D. BALL TARGET GREENS™ are up to 25 yards across –
as wide as a large golf green in size – so there’s no excuse
for missing! As long as your ball lands within a target,
you’ll receive a score. Each target is split into zones
from within a few yards of the pin to the edge of the green.
There is even a golf hole, for the ultimate hole-in-one
challenge!
The
TopGolf™ computer will remember your score for every shot
you make, so you can monitor your progress over time.
