Ping Mantis Golf Bag

While club and ball technology continues apace, the humble golf bag has also seen progressive strides in technology over the last decade, with Ping's L8+ and Hoofer carry bags at the forefront of the lightweight revolution.

Their latest launch continues the tradition. Indeed, if the Cobra shaft is dubbed Airweight then so should Ping's Mantis which tips the scales at barely 2.5 lbs. Seemingly made from the thinest gossamer, the bag in fact comprises a durable polypropolene strengthened by a five-way divider acting as a reinforced plastic webbing. The total weight figure miraculously includes the spring-loaded bag stand made from lightweight aluminium and incorporating a simple hand-activated mechanism.

A no-nonsense basic design, certainly, but one which still manages to feature three generous zippered pockets to supplement a main garment pouch, hood and umbrella strap.

Carrying is by means of a standard single strap though there is an attachment for the double ruck-sack-type arrangements that are growing in popularity for their 'back friendly' features.
