Memorabilia Sale at the Open

A golfing memorabilia sale will be held by Bonhams at St Andrews on July 21 - the second day of the Millennium Open.

Highlighting the auction are two rare mid-19th century wooden longspoon clubs, made by the McEwan family around 1840 and Willie Dunn Snr in 1858, which could each fetch up to £8,000.

Included in the sale is a featherie ball made by W & J Gourlay around 1830 which has an estimated value of up to £600.

A selection of pictures with a golfing theme will also be available, notably a 19th century watercolour entitled “Golfing on the Heath” which could be worth £1,200.
