INTENSIVE
RESIDENTIAL GOLF SCHOOL LAUNCHED IN SUSSEX
An intensive,
residential golf school, the James Andrews School of Golf,
has been launched at the Sedlescombe Golf Course in East Sussex
to teach all levels of golf, particularly beginners, how to
improve their golf on two and five day courses.
It is
the brainchild of Michael Whaley who is returning to business
in England after establishing the highly successful Hurricane
Hotel for windsurfers in Tarifa on the Atlantic coast of Spain.
Since the hotel was launched 15 years ago Tarifa and the Hurricane
Hotel have built a worldwide reputation for windsurfing and
excellent hotel accommodation.
Whaley
wants to replicate this tactic in the UK but this time with
golf. He believes that there is a gap in the market for short
residential golf courses in a beautiful environment with top
qualify hotel accommodation at a reasonable price.
The James
Andrew School of Golf has an 18-hole course, an 18-bay floodlit
driving range, a 50m² purpose built indoor each facility with
video and computer equipment for swing analysis and a hotel
with 20 luxurious, air-conditioned bedrooms an en-suite bathrooms
as well as sauna, gym and massage facility.
Michael
Whaley commenting on the launch of the school said: “Our research
has shown there is a demand for residential golf courses particularity
for beginners who want to learn the rudiments of the game
as quickly as possible.
“They
want the tuition to be easy to organise and as comfortable
as possible which makes a residential course more preferable.
People can feel intimidated about contacting their local golf
club, unsure about the etiquette and unwilling to show their
inexperience and lack of skills in front of seasoned golfers.”
“Golf
is once again increasing in popularity particularly among
younger people who have become attracted to the sport by the
success of players such as Tiger Woods and Sergio Garcia,
whilst for the ladies 25 year-old Karrie Webb of Australia
is winning everything.”
The school
is located in an area of outstanding natural beauty 2 miles
east of Battle and only 1½ hours driving time from London
or one 1 hour and 15 minutes by train.
The school
can also be used for corporate hospitality, golf days, conferences
and meeting and team building. A separate function room seating
70 people is also available.
Prices
start from £200 for a two-day course with half board accommodation.
