Cobra
New CXI Iron
After
last year's impressive Gravity Back range, Orlando saw the
launch of Cobra's latest flagship irons designed to maximise
distance for each of the three categories of mens, ladies
and seniors.
"The
three models of CXI each show an attention to ball flight
and performance as well as to feel and overall appearance,"
explains Dave Aznavorian, Cobra's Senior Manager of Communications."The
design executions in clubhead, shafts and overall set-composition
vary according to the category of golfer they aim to serve."
As
far as the clubhead is concerned, one of the most prominent
features is the CXI sole which varies progressively through
each set, in terms of width, radius and camber, in order
to reduce friction. Meanwhile weight reinforcement bars
in a distinctive 'X' configuration are said to achieve new
levels of stability at impact.
As
pioneers of lightweight shaft technology Cobra have surpassed
themselves by breaking the 50-gramme barrier for the first
time in a mass market club (it had already been done in
a few Japanese sets for that domestic market). The name
'Airweight' may be stretching a bit, but the shaft in fact
weighs less than most conventional grips.
With
headweight and swingweight basically unchanged, this design
should provide golfers with greater clubhead speed and corresponding
distance gains. We await reports from golfers as soon as
the clubs hit the European pro shops in the summer.
Prices
for the CXI Mens, CXI/SF (seniors) CXI/L (ladies) irons
to be announced shortly.
