Car
Boot Yields Big Smile
For
Long Nose
A Shropshire
car boot enthusiast has a big smile on his face after picking
up a golf putter he didn’t want as part of the deal when he
bought a cricket bat for one pound.
The investment,
made by the North Shropshire man who wishes to remain anonymous,
turned out to be a good one when he asked sporting auctioneers,
Mullock Madeley, of Church Stretton, to move the golf putter
on for him.
John Mullock
explains: "It wasn’t just any old bit of golf kit, but
an R. Forgan (St Andrew’s) longnose scared neck putter head
with the Prince of Wales stamp. As a result we sold it for
£600. It has a horn sole insert, lead back, circa 1880 and
it appeared hardly used, all of which make it highly collectible."
Ironically
even the cricket bat made a 20 fold increase, selling for
£20. John continues: "Bearing in mind the vendor only
bought it a couple of months ago he is chuffed to bits.
"The
message is there is still an Aladdins cave of increasingly
rare and sought after sporting items. The trick is to appreciate
scarce and old items, particularly when they are in good condition,"
he adds
