Air
Cart
For
the golfer who has everything, including cash, there's the air-conditioned
golf cart.
The
£10,000 Polarcart made its debut at the recent PGA Merchandise Show
in Orlando.
"It's
the Mercedes of golf carts and it really works," said Bill
Sellers of the Polarcart division of Williams-Trane Air Conditioning
which developed the vehicle.
The
Polarcart is also expected to be attractive to cold-weather golfers
because the enclosed cabin offers some protection against chill
despite not being heated.
Vertec
is expected to have the capacity to make up to 5,000 Polarcarts,
said founder Rudy Bray.
The
cart's development has cost $1 million. It is powered by a 3.2hp,
36-volt electric motor and has a maximum speed of 15mph.
Williams
does not expect price to be a factor in a potential market that
includes exclusive country clubs, hospitals, theme parks and wealthy
individuals.
"I,
for one, have refused to play golf in inclement weather for years,"
Williams said. "That led to my idea for the air-conditioned
golf cart."
